Ultimate Ears 700 - A Very Good Feature Mix For Upper-Mid-Range Earphones The Ultimate Ears 700 Noise Isolating Earphones are a good quality premium set of in-ear monitors. After several weeks of thoroughly testing these earphones and comparing them to the army of others that I own, my impressions have improved. These earphones have many of the best qualities that those seeking compact in-ear monitors (IEMs) are looking for. In each individual category, however, they are mostly bested by alternatives. You will have to review the entire range of features and decide if these provide the right blend of strong points to meet your needs. WHO SHOULD BUY THESE EARPHONES? These might be the right head-phones for you if you: 1. Are demanding about sound and really want better low-end sound reproduction than most compact IEMs. 2. Need good sound isolation and have normal to small ear canals 3. Need a compact set of earphones that can be inserted deeply for wearing under a helmet (such as during motorcycle riding) 4. Need a high quality cable without any memory and with minimal wire feedback (this pair's best feature) 5. Need a comfortable fit with good quality tips. WHO SHOULD CONSIDER ALTERNATIVES? You may benefit from considering the alternatives if you have one or more of the following needs. 1. Those who want the very best sound are probably still better off stepping up to the UE TripleFi 10 Pros, which have three unique drivers which result in the best low-end sound production out of any IEMs I have tested. Please note that those sell for much more than these. Similarly, the Shure SE530s have an amazing sound and superior comfort, though those units are not only twice as expensive they also have some build issues. Still, for those looking for the best sound possible in IEMs, those units deserve a look. 2. Those who need the best sound isolation should consider the Etymotic ER6is, ER-4Ps, HF2s or the HF5s depending on whether they prefer compact (ER6is, ER4Ps) or larger (HF2s, HF5s) body shapes. The flanged design of the ER tips are simply unmatched at sound isolation. The tips with the UE 700s are good , but can be easy to install improperly. If your tip size is slightly too small and you install too deep, you will lose isolation and hear a pop. The ER tips are just much better designed to help avoid that possible mistake. 3. Similarly, the ER6is are very compact and can also be used for motorcycle riding. Because of the improved isolation, there is less risk of having the seal pop while you're riding, which is a very uncomfortable situation to be in. The trade off is sound quality. The ER6is are a good compromise, and sound good. The UE 700s sound better, and fuller, even if they are not as efficient. Both units should be handled with care since the build quality is only moderately good. But considering the ER6is are half the price, it's a serious consideration for those willing to sacrifice a little bit of sound quality. The ER4Ps are closer in price, and honestly may sound slightly better then these. I will need more time comparing them before forming an opinion on that. 4. Those who don't want a compact IEM that buries itself into your ear canal should probably consider the UE Superfi 5 Pros. They also have the same dual-driver technology that produces very nice sound, but they have the longer body of the classic UE IEMs. I also somewhat prefer the tips of those, having owned the Ultimate Ears SuperFi 3s and some re-branded UE phones made by other manufacturers. They come with the option of a wider dual flanged tip that is good for those with wider ear canals. THE FEATURES The sound quality of these is very good. They are based on Ultimate Ear's signature dual-driver configuration with separate high and low drivers. The sound isn't quite as full as other higher end units, and the efficiency isn't as high. That means you have to turn up your volume a little more with these to get the same sound level you would with the Superfi 5Pros or the like. But the clarity is very good. In tests with uncompressed and low compression formats this set performed very well in the sound department. Sound quality was good even before break-in and improved slightly after. Included with the earphones is a plastic case that is held closed by one side, while the other side is just a plastic hinge. I am definitely dreading the day that breaks. There is also a sound attenuator that will help to protect your phones and your hearing if you have to hook up to an unstable sound source, such as on an airplane. However, they don't include the double pronged jack you need to plug in on most airplanes. There isn't sufficient room to keep the attenuator or the extra tips in the case so you will have to store them elsewhere. The foam tips included with this set are better than other foam tips that come with my Etymotics. The silicone tips are made from good quality silicone. The problem with them, alluded to above, is that their rounded shape means they feel like the perfect size, but may break the seal if you push them at the wrong depth or angle. So those who normally use a medium tip will have to size up to the large, and push it in past the point of comfort. I have sensitive ears and it took me about two weeks to adjust to these. The product picture and box suggests you should wrap these around your ears for active use, such as while running. Actually, you should do it for any use. By limiting the pulling of wearing these straight down, it limits the wire sound that all IEMs have to some degree. The cable is such good quality I didn't hear any wire-movement sounds when these were properly installed. There is a red plastic on one side so you can tell left from right, another UE trait that is a very useful feature. The body of these is a light plastic, but with that always comes possible durability concerns. I will only be able to update my findings about durability after 6 months of extended use. Needless to say, I would not be using these for running as they suggest on the box. CONCLUSION These are great IEMs, and may be one of the better quality compact earphones out there. However, if you don't mind slightly larger units, there are other alternatives that may be better overall. I am still glad I got these. Some of the features are very good, and the quality is noticeable. Depending on your budget and your needs, you should review your alternatives. Enjoy. Excellent Fidelity, but Wire to Plug Connection is Fragile I have been using my new Logitech "Ultimate Ears" 700 Noise-Isolating Earphones for most of the past weekend non-stop on my IPod. Most important, I am one of those people who like deep throbbing base! As I write this review, I am listening to Tom Petty's "You Wreck Me Baby," having recently listened to my collection of Petty, Steely Dan, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Given the physical limitation of ear pieces, I understand that there are practical constraints. Yet the base is strong, clear, and comes across distinctly from the other components of each track. (You like soft rock? Listen to your Carpenters music on these earphones. You can hear what a perfectionist Richard Carpenter really was. They make Brian Wilson's vocal arrangements sound even better.) To backup a bit and for context, up to this point I had been dealing with the headphones that came from Apple with the IPod. Not only are they low fidelity, but they never fit snugly into both ears! I excercise with my I-pod, and I had resorted to wearing light headphones, which are no real solution. Now I use one of the medium silicon ear pieces (right ear) and one of the large (left ear). When I loop the wire above both ears, running doesn't dislodge the earphones. The literature describes Logitech's goal to minimize outside noise, and this is accomplished so well that I have to be careful when running because I can't rely on my hearing anymore to determine if traffic is coming up behind me. Also, my wife has been a little irritated now and then when I don't respond as quickly as I have in the past when she is trying to get my attention. I am also a big fan of movie soundtracks and in particular, Thomas Newman. On my collection from "Meet Joe Black," in particular, the strings and soft orchestral backgrounds sound fantastic with the "Ultimate Ears." I am picking up electronic sounds I hadn't previously noticed in my Natalie Imbruglia and Imogen Heap collections. The mid-ranges are nice as well, and the split between right and left is great. What a blessing it is to hear silence from moment to moment in a song, when there is supposed to be silence! Note: Sometimes I like to play some of the tracks a little louder than I should. The first few tracks I played this way (within minutes of opening the package), seemed to have a little distortion associated with some of the vocals, which concerned me. I went to the "settings" on my IPod and changed the "EQ" setting to "Loudness." This setting works great for me because I've had difficulty trying to re-create any distortion on this setting, even with the volume turned way up. "Ultimate Ears 700" make all the difference in the world in the quality of the sounds coming from my IPod, as well as the places and activities where I can use it. I will update the text of my review over the next several months as my learnings increase. I have had good luck changing the EQ settings for different type of music at different volumes. ("Loudness" seems to work best for me.) And I'm still on the lookout for distortion. I'll let you know how that goes. UPDATE (8/16/09): I have damaged the connection where the wire attaches to the plug-in. Perhaps this was the complaint of the earlier negative reviewer. In between uses, instead of disconnnecting the "Ultimate Ears," rolling them up, and carefully storing them in their case, I left the plug in and wrapped the cord around my I-Pod before stuffing everything into my pocket. One week of this, and now they only work when I move the cord around (like driving with a stick shift) until I get a momentary connection. Aware that I didn't treat them well, potential buyers should treat their "Ultimate Ears" better than I did. However, they should also know that the engineering of the wire connection falls way short of the great engineering of the sound fidelity. I am going to call Logitech to get their input. Excellent IEMs - Handle With Care The Ultimate Ears 700 Noise Isolating Earphones are an excellent set of inner ear monitors (IEMs) that have some amazing features and qualities. I have one issue with their durability, but despite that I am happy to give the UE 700s a high recommendation. Note that during listening sessions with the 700s I compared them with a set of Denon AHC751K In-ear Headphones and a set of full sized Sennheiser HD-595 Premier Headphones. When appropriate below I will note comparisons to the Denons and Senns. Build and fit - OK. These are by far the smallest IEMs I've owned, and smaller than any armature driver IEMs Ultimate Ears has put out before; these are the first earphones I can wear while laying on my side (if I wished to). Sound is produced by dual balanced armature drivers, which generally produce higher quality results than dynamic speakers found on less expensive earphones. The 700s come with a 45" symmetrical cord, a sound level attenuator, and a plastic carrying case. UE also supplies multiple tip options (S, M, L silicone tips, standard size Comply foam tips) to help users get a good seal with the 700s, which is essential for optimal performance. I used the large silicon tips and large Comply foam tips (That I purchased) for listening; unfortunately the supplied medium Comply tips were a bit too small for my ears. My issue with the durability of the UE 700s is that after using these for several lawn mowing sessions, which tend to be sweaty endeavors, I found that the "liquid metal" finish began flaking off. Other than sweat from the noted outside activities, I've not abused the UEs and always stored them properly, so I'm a bit disappointed that the finish is this fragile. So note that the "liquid metal" finish is just a very thin film over plastic, and should be treated gently; save your heavy physical activity for some el-cheapo IEMs. Sound - excellent. The bass is comparable to my Senn 595s - accurate and analytical. At first, using the silicone tips, I felt that on some material (NIN "Closer", Steely Dan "Aja") I wished there was a bit more oomph in the lowest frequencies. But after swapping out the silicon tips with the Comply foam tips I found that the bass increased significantly and was no longer an issue. The mids are forward but well balanced and the treble is clear. With the silicone tips there seems to be a boost in the 6 KHz to 10 KHz range that adds a bit too much sparkle to the treble, but the Comply tips help here as well. The overall sound of the 700s is great, and I have been enthralled with how well vocals are handled. Compared to all my previous headphones / IEMs, the UE 700s seem to lift a veil that was previously placed between the singer and me. Guitar, piano, and other instruments also have a clarity and immediacy that I have not experienced before. Other stuff - Microphonics were present but no worse than for other IEMs I own, and wearing the cord around the ear reduced the problem considerably. Sound isolation was also typical for IEMs; the foam tips blocked out a bit more sound than the silicone tips. Conclusion - highly recommended. I love the small size, wonderful clarity, and fine handling of vocals and instruments of these IEMs. With the Comply tips I am also satisfied with the bass performance and overall tonal balance. Other than committed "bass-heads" who demand that their skulls be bashed about by subsonic thunder, I can't think of too many people that would not be happy with the UE 700s. Just treat them gently and enjoy.

These are some of the best earphones on the market. I am a professional, classically trained musician and I have had these earphones for two weeks. I listen to mainly classical music, and have quite a collection of jazz and pop from various eras to which I listen as well. These earphones are wonderful. I did extensive research and returned several pairs of earphones (including Shure) before deciding on these. These are canalphones, so you MUST have a good seal or you will not get proper sound. This means you have to choose the right fitting rubber inserts before they will work properly. The previous reviewer must have not fitted them properly because the sound is phenomenal when these are plugged in! These phones have dual drivers for highs and lows. There is a lot of chatter on the internet about a weak high-end to these UE's, but I do not find that to be the case at all. The high-end is clear and defined. The strong low end, which is superb, may give many a scewed reference since most canalphones do not have good low ends, but the bass does not overpower the upper registers. Contrary to popular belief on the web, classical music sounds best when there is enough bass along with the highs. Just go to a live classical concert and listen for yourself! There is plenty of bass to go around! These phones are perfect for classical or for any type of music. The other advantage to these phones is that you can change the wire and plugs yourself if they break or if you want a different cord of a different color. The earphones come with two nice cases, one all metal and the other in leather and the the accessorries all fit neatly together in the metal case. Another nice feature is that there is little to no sound leakage. This means if you sleep with a significant-other, you won't disturb him or her at all. You should be careful when using them, because you won't hear much of anything other than the music. The only downside is that these earphones will show you just how bad MP3 compression is on your player. I did a comparison with my CD player and discovered that even at 320 kbps, some of my MP3 files sound "distorted" compared to the CD. I did not notice this with my previous earphones. If you're looking for great canalphones at a great price, then look no farther. I got mine at the Guitar Center and the sales person knocked $50 off the price, they are also the clear version. You can't go wrong with UE's proprietary monitor technology. Your iPod needs these earphones The UE Super fi 5 Pros have been designed to provide clear, balanced sound in a highly portable and comfortable product. As of this moment I think they represent a kind of "best buy" for iPod owners seeking to upgrade from the stock white earbuds supplied with their music players. A key to optimal enjoyment of these IEM's is selection of the appropriate ear tip from the several provided, including a compressible foam version and several types and sizes of rubber tips. Once a proper in-ear seal is achieved (yes, moistening the rubber tips is helpful), the resultant sound quality is excellent. Since the Super fi Pros don't require deep insertion into the ear canal, wearers can avoid the potential discomfort associated with some other high-quality IEM's. The over-the-ear design of the earpiece wires ensures that these UE's will fit securely even during exercise. The cord, however, is very thin and appears delicate. These UE cords are also more prone to tangling than any I have ever encountered. It's a good thing that the supplied metal storage case includes a winder. The balanced two-driver design produces good musical detail, decent but not spectacular treble, and excellent bass reproduction. Those seeking the very best in musical detail, however, should consider instead the Etymotic ER-4 in-ear models. On the other hand, the bass response of the UE's is far fuller than that of the Ety's. For any kind of music in which bass slam is essential, the UE's are an excellent choice. The use of an auxilliary headphone amp tightens up the sound quality a bit, but these IEM's are so easy to drive that an amp is not necessary. This model, in fact, seems well-suited to produce high-volume output with any portable. I suspect, in fact, that the sonic signature of the Super fi 5 Pros was designed with Apple's bass-shy iPod models in mind. The output from my Nano seemed frustratingly thin and sometimes shrill when I used both the Apple earbuds and my pair of Etymotic ER-4P in-ear monitors. With the Super fi Pro's, however, the music is reproduced fully and richly, with plenty of bass. There is excellent synergy here. Overall, these earphones produce clear, detailed sound in a tiny, highly portable package. The sound is not as "big" or full as can be achieved with top-quality full-sized headphones, but for on-the-go use, the Super fi 5 Pros will not disappoint. People who want "the very best" can spend a lot more money to get custom-fit in-ear monitors (such as Ultimate Ears' own UE-10 Pro model). Certainly when you shell out $1000 you should expect top-notch performance. But for one-fifth this price the Super fi 5 Pro model delivers amazingly good sound. Some people will still consider these earphones excessively expensive, but consider: this is a purchase that will pay dividends every time you turn on your music player. Look NO Further. I recently received my Ultimate Ears super.fi Pro 5's, and I've got to add my voice to the resounding "praise" that is echoed again and again here and elsewhere. There are few products that I feel deserve my praise, and I'm a pretty picky guy with it comes to electronics. That said, I feel like I have to tell you that these are easily the best in-ear-monitors (IEMs) that I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. Like others have said, they reveal hidden details in music you already own, and for me, they seem to "unleash" the true dynamic range of the music I love. I listen to all types of music: from sacred to heavy metal/progressive rock, from ambient to pop (okay, well just a little "pop"), from classical to jazz ... you get the idea. I was a little concerned before I dropped my hard-earned money on these super.fi 5 Pro's that they might not live up to their lofty reputation. Well, I've got to tell you that these babies simply _blew_ my mind. Crisp highs (ZERO sibilance), strong mid-range (GREAT presence), and extremely well-defined and controlled bass (I'm a self-confessed bass-head and these are the bomb-diggity). I opted for 5 Pro's in lieu of the 5 EB's because it IS possible to have too much bass, and lose the music in the wash of low-end sound -- I prefer a more "audiophile" response, and can always EQ to my tastes. Like the others have said, with any IEM (and the Pro 5's are no exception) a good seal in your ear is a must. The excellent variety of included "tips" will provide most owners with the perfect fit. I personally use the small silicone tips, and I have no troubles inserting or removing the headphones. In fact, for me, they're so comfortable that I hardly notice I'm wearing them after a short while. When the fit is proper, you will experience some of the best sound isolation (from external sources) and high fidelity that is possible. The other included accessories are really nice: the hard metal case, which has compartments for the 1/4" adapter, attenuator, and cleaning tool; and the soft leather case are all top-notch. The owners manual is very informative and written in plain English [but seriously dude, they're ear-buds, how difficult could they be to figure out?!?!?]. They are built very well and have a two-year warranty which I hope never to have to use. Remember those Sony MDR-EX71SL's you were all excited about, with the cord that split and frayed after a short while? Well, you won't find that cheap stuff here -- these have a user-replaceable cord -- go figure! It appears that Ultimate Ears may be worthy of their name. Pair these with a great music player like Cowon's iAudio X5L (60GB of course), and you've got yourself a killer setup you can take just about anywhere that will allow you to slip away into your own personal space and enjoy your musical experiences in the way that the artists and engineers intended. [SAFETY MESSAGE: Just don't forget about your surroundings in the process!] Yeah, I'm sure I'll still use my Sony MDR-EX71SL's from time to time (like maybe when I mow the lawn?). No, my MDR-7506's (with Beyerdynamic velour pads) aren't going anywhere any time soon, but for amazing fidelity, portability, and aesthetic reasons (i.e. in public), I'll be using my super.fi 5 Pro's quite a bit. And while it's probably a personal choice, I'm choosing to forget about Shure, Etymotic, and Westone. Look no further my friend, and order these from Amazon.com today!!! So Happy With These Earbuds I have had these earbuds for months now (have them on right now as a matter of fact!) I couldn't be happier. Comfort is a big issue for me. I have small ears and earbuds have always hurt. Not these. That you can choose from the three earbud sizes definitely helps. But, they are also pliable little guys, not at all hard which makes for painful wearing after a few hours. The sound quality is stellar. Love them.

Amazing For the past month I've been soul searching for new in-ears. I've read hundreds of reviews of hundreds of products on CNET, Head-fi, and many others. I came across NuForce and was impressed by their website and decided to just give it a try. I've had the NE-6 for about a week now. These are identical to the NE-7 minus the mic, which is no big loss for me since I don't listen to music on my cell, and I also like the deep blue metal rather than the copper color on the NE-7. Out of the box, these sound amazing. After about 30-40 hours of burn in time, they sound incredible. The bass is very rich and powerful and provides the perfect amount for hip hop and electronica music, without overshadowing the other ranges. Perfect for working out to. The mid and high ranges are very detailed. With a lot of songs, it sounds like the music is actually playing from regular speakers in your room, rather than the in-ear's. I've been startled a few times because voices sound like they are coming from someone next to you rather than the song. Everything is balanced very well, no one range blares over the others like in a lot of in-ears. I'm not some die-hard audiophile so I can't really get too detailed about comparisons and specifics, but these things just rock. I listen to a lot of hip hop, rock, classic rock, electronica, and sometimes even classical. The NE-6 are incredible for any genre I'm listening to. This is the most expensive pair of in-ears I've ever purchased, but as people have said, they sound like they should be in the $150 range. Since I can't compare to other expensive in-ears, I'll say this: After listening to these, I have no clue why some regular consumer like myself would pay for anything more. These just sound phenomenal plain and simple. And now for the non-audio stuff. The cord is rubberized and is fairly thin. However, it feels very sturdy and I think it will hold its own for a very long time as long as I don't neglect my ne-6's. The plug is an L plug with plenty of reinforcement. It has a unique design and It still fits through my iphones candyshell case. I don't see the plug ever breaking or causing problems. It has a symmetrical Y split, which is awesome because I HATE asymmetrical cords. It also has a slider on the Y split to prevent tangles. There is a small clip that is right below the Y split that you can slide up and down the cord. At first I did not like this, but I have found the it works great to clip to your jacket or shirt when you are moving around because it keeps the cords from accidentally getting caught on something. You could always just take it off though. They come with 4 pairs of tips: small, medium, large, and a double flange tip. The medium fits perfect for me and its super comfortable. Finally, they come with a sweet little leather pouch that magnetically closes. All in all, the NE-6's ended my month long search the instant I took them out of the box. It's hard to describe how great they sound, but I actually look forward to the next time I can listen to them every day. They also shipped super quick, way before Amazon's estimate. I ordered at 7pm on a Thursday, and they were on my doorstep the following Monday morning. I chose the second fasting shipping method because it was only like a dollar more. BUY THESE! You will NOT be disappointed! NuForce Delivers w/NE-6 I originally ordered the NE-7(w/mic), thinking it would work w/my Samsung Omnia HD..it doesn't...However, NuForce paid for the shipping both ways and sent me a replacement NE-6 (same as the 7's, but w/out the mic and different color)...I lOVE LOVE THEM....Especially after 40-60 hours of burn in, the 6's have openend up nicely...They have high treble, without sounding tinny or brash, nice mid-range, and excellent base response, without sounding bloated or slow...I could not be more happy with the sound of these phones (especially when they sound as great as some that cost 200.00 or more), except for the fact that I am even MORE pleased w/the excellent customer service and satisfaction department at NuForce...Thanks guys...Shout out to Jason who made it happen. Excellent quality for an excellent price After finally deciding on a new portable music device, I decided that I should get me some decent earphones too. Since I'm getting these for my daily travels (about an hour a day, walking/cycling) and working out at the gym, going for high priced earphones would have been a waste, my player has a basic 5 band equalizer and I won't be using a portable amp, so I was looking for affordable quality. A couple of weeks reading reviews, previews and generally browsing the web for a decent set, I finally decided to go for these Nuforce NE-6 in-earphones. And I'm glad I did. They sounded good the first time I put them in, but were a bit uncomfy, so I messed around with the different silicone pugs and found out the small ones are the ones for me and now they're comfy and sound the part too. There is no need to create a vacuum in your ears, doing so makes travel a bit weird, as you can hear your body vibrate with every step you take, if they are fitted just right you will just be able to enjoy the music. The movable adjuster just after the 'Y' splitter is a bit useless for me, wearing the cable outside of my jacket, but will certainly come in handy over the summer, the little clip is great for making sure your cables don't get snagged/in the way of normal movement. You really do get twice the value for your money with these, I recommend them to most casual listeners. Make sure if you are travelling not to crank up the volume too much, in-ears do muffle the environment noises a bit, although you should always be careful on the road anyway! I would also like to complement Nuforce service: my left earbud suffered a 'snag' accident and got disconnected at the 'Y' splitter: this happened within 30 days of purchase and as such was treated as a DOA (the left connection might have been a little weaker). A new set is on the way and I can send the defective one back after recieving the replacement. Execllent and fast service!

Wonderful, till they break These earplugs are wonderful. Haven't used them at a concert yet(what I bought them for). But turned my home speakers up to nearly the highest volume to the point you can feel all the music in your chest, not just the bass. Work great, I could listen to music this loud all day long with them in. But a few seconds without them is uncomfortable. They fit pretty well, I can't stand foam ear plugs. But I could easily wear this type all day. I used to wear a set of shooting earplugs in similar style that destroyed the quality of the music. These fit as well and sound good. Gonna keep a pair in my car for when I go to shows at bars on short notice. No more muddled hearing the next day for me. Edit: These broke the second time I wore them. One of the plugs started detaching from the plastic. It started letting in alot of high pitched noise. Better than nothing, but very annoying when you want decent sound quality. Works well in motorcycles and old cars I've found these very useful either when used while wearing a helmet (natch) on a motorcycle and also when driving my old un-airconditioned car with the windows down at highway speeds. Unlike foam ear plugs, requency response of sounds heard remains relatively normal, but everything is just quieter. Much less of the "plugged up" feeling, and a small amount of air can pass through, keeping my ear canals dryer. They work, but stick out These do what they're supposed to - they provide protection while still allowing you to hear things that you probably wouldn't with the regular foam earplugs. However, I wanted to use them for live music. The sticks come out so far from your ears that it looks a little silly, so I don't wear them in public. I got some other Hearos standard earplugs that work just fine and look okay. I think if you really want high fidelity earplugs, you should just go all the way and get the custom $200+ musician's plugs.

Great headphones for the price Unlike the other reviewers here, I have no complaints about my headphones. I had a different pair by the same company before, but the little rubber pieces that cover the speakers kept popping off whenever I put the headphones in my bag. The rubber pieces on this model are much more secure and I have a hard time imagining them falling off. For such tiny ear buds, they do a really good job of blocking out the noise. The ear loops fit my ears perfectly so I don't ever worry about the headphones falling off, even when exercising. The cord is a good length for me (I'm 5'5"), but I can see how it would be too short if you're really tall. The volume adjuster is nice because you have to actually concentrate on moving the dial to change the volume--on the other model I had the dial would move if it was even so much as brushed by my shirt. I don't have a problem changing the volume while working out, either. Considering the price, you'll be hard pressed to find a more quality pair of headphones. And if you're nervous, iLuv offers a 1-year warranty on all its products (so save the UPC code that comes with the box!). You can't go wrong with Ultimate Ears earphones Do you like your music from your iPod to sound sharp and clear with plenty of distinction between the treble, bass and midtones? I think these earphones do an excellent job. The bass comes through nice and strong and the treble has good clarity. I've tried a lot of different earbuds over the years, Sennheiser, JBuds, Sony and Cresyn. I would rate these above those for the richness of their sound and the feeling that they give you of being right there in the studio with the singer or in a symphony hall for classical music. Music is important to me. I love all different kinds from hip hop to classical and I want it to sound good. The invention of mp3 players with the ability to take your music everywhere was huge for me. My iPod sounded pretty good to me even with the earphones that came with it - until I tried a better set. Since then I've always been looking for something better, something that makes the sound more realistic. I like to be able to close my eyes and feel like I'm there, where the music is being played. So I've gone through a few sets of earphones over the past few years. The first thing that I found was important is to have noise isolating earphones. Otherwise I hear too many other sounds from the outside and they interfere more with my listening than I would have imagined. I could definitely hear the difference when going between noise isolating and non-noise isolating. The other thing that's really important is to have earbuds that are comfortable. In the past, some have made my ears feel itchy after wearing them all evening or afternoon, especially if I'm walking or moving around a lot. I would say that these silicone ear tips are the most comfortable and the best for noise isolating that I've used. I often forget that I'm wearing them. The earphones come with a hard little carrying case which is handy. The wires are delicate so you have to be careful when closing it, but it's a nice size and easy to carry along when not using them. The only earphones that I've found that are superior to these are also made by Ultimate Ears, the Ultimate Ears 700 Noise Isolating Earphones but these are almost double the price and close to professional quality earphones. For most of my listening these MetroFi 220's are an excellent choice. For me, Ultimate Ears is the "go to" brand for quality earphones. Quality Sound - Noise Isolating - Odd Fit These are quality and attractive earbuds. They have extremely clear sound. The passive noise isolation does work; with these on I either cannot hear other people talking or at most they are extremely muffled. In such a small device, there are many little touches which indicate the amount of thought which went into every detail: The cord is neither too long nor too short and have a thoughtful adjustment slider to keep the Y of the wires from getting tangled. The heft of the individual wires are such that they are neither stiff nor floppy. The mini-jack connector has very little added material around it making it likely it will be useable with any device, probably including the original iPhone with its notoriously small jack. I say probably having not tried this. The sound is full and rich. I would say it is superior to standard issue iPod earbuds in the bass end. As I type this, I'm listening to a percussion section on Paul Simon's Graceland album, and I can feel the low frequency pounding of drums expanding in my ears: an interesting and immersive sensation. I would not get these earbuds for use with an iPhone or second generation iPod touch, as those devices demand a microphone, the same company makes a sister product (MetroFi 220vi) which does have a microphone and a clicker. My major problem is with fit. I am using the medium sized of the included pads and they are rubbing the inside of my ear in an annoying way causing irritation over long sessions, and I can hear the pads move inside my ears when I am walking. For someone who happens to get a better match to one of the pads this might be a non-issue. In summary, a solid product which people with fortunately sized ear canals might find great. Great Lows, Pretty good highs, better than Apple In-Ear phones I've had these guys for about a month now and I am using them as my primary headphones. I'd like to think I'm an audiophile, but I definitely don't understand sound like some of the others here on Amazon writing reviews. I do know however, what great sound quality sounds like. I also own a pair of Shure SE430s ($400) as my use-at-home phones, as well as the older E4Cs ($300) which were stolen. I can't say that these are on the same level as the Shures, but I can say that they are about 70% of the quality at about 15% of the price; GREAT value. I also own the Apple In-Ear headphones (the new ones), and can honestly say that these blow the Apple phones out of the water. These earphones' bass is exceptional. Lows come out of these things smoothly and cleanly. There is never any distortion of the bass. I love listening to songs like "Boom Boom Pow", "Get Buck In Here", any Kanye song, and even a song like "Sway" sounds exceptional with the warm bass that come out of these things. I would even go out on the limb to say that the bass on the Ultimate Ears MetroFi 220s sounds better and cleaner than my Shures ever did. Mids are also really great. Vocals come out clean and crisp. John Mayer and Tom Petty songs sound wonderful. I think the only place that the 220's could use a little work is on the highs. While the highs don't sound bad, they're not as clean and smooth as the lows and mids. The highs sometime sound bright and sometimes just *ever so slightly* distorted. You really can't hear the distortion unless you are *really* looking for it. I use these earphones a lot at work. Another thing I really like about them is that they don't completely isolate the ambient noise. This is great because I can hear my co-workers when they are talking to me. Also, when they are in my ears, people around me can't hear me even when my iPhone/iPod are turned up all the way. Overall, for me to compare these to my Shures really says something. These phones are a great value and I really enjoy them as my "commuter headphones". If these had a microphone, I think they would be in my ears from morning to evening!!! I highly recommend them for anyone looking for headphones in this price range.

jBuds are Ear Buddies These were my fourth pair of earbuds and the most impressive I've owned. The wiring and connections are solid and reinforced. I've replaced earbuds when the wiring breaks or the sound volume becomes unequal. I'm hard on earbuds. My workday starts late in the morning and lasts until late in the evening. I need to still be asleep when the gardeners come with their leaf blowers and weed whackers. Earbuds serve a dual purpose: they keep sound out and give me pleasant sounds to sleep by. Being a bit of an insomniac, my MP3 player helps me to fall asleep each night as well. This is tough on earphones. I'm impressed with the construction of these buds. Stress points are well reinforced and unlikely to fail. But ruggedness isn't the primary reason for buying phones ... sound quality is. These are second to none when it comes to sound quality. Bass is solid with no distortion. The midrange and highs are crisp and clear. I've listened to everything from hip-hop to classical and they have provided a superior listening experience. The worst feature of these phones is that they have a straight plug into the media player instead of an angled plug. This makes it easier to accidently unplug the phones. At worst, a minor drawback. Also, the barrel of the buds is a bid longer than others. At first I thought this would be a problem with lying on a pillow, but it hasn't disturbed me at all. These utterly dominate all the other earbuds I've owned, both in terms of construction quality and in terms of sound. Buy a pair with confidence - you can't go wrong. Good Step Up From Apple Earbuds As Apple headphone replacements, these are very good headphones. Purely on an audio basis, these leave a lot to be desired, highs are muted. September 10, 2009 Update: Wow JLabs continues to be amazing. In the middle of the summer, the audio jack separated from the headphone wires. Essentially making the headphones useless. They got a ton of play by my son who loved the design. A few emails to JLabs and no response. After a month or so and a few emails, I gave up. Oh well, go buy some new headphones, and call it a day. Well this past week I got an email saying they were sorry about not responding. Another email back with no intention that they would respond. Oh my goodness was I wrong this evening. They are standing behind these broken headphones and sending me a replacement. There's another little bonus as a great good will gesture. These guys just amaze me. There is also a letter of apology by the owner of JLabs explaining what happened. A rough customer service moment for warranty repairs; and they appear to be back on track beautifully. September 19, 2009 Update: replacement earphones have arrived. They included a nice vinyl JLabs zipper case for the headphones, and a speaker surprise. So Jlabs did make right on this problem. Nov. 27 update: JLabs is a very impressive company. They posted a comment to this review and suggested that I burn in the headphones. That is very good advice - sometimes it does take 24 hours or a week or two to free up a speaker and get it to sound optimal. So I ran my iPod for 24 hours, played 394 songs at medium volume (no I didn't listen that whole time). My particular sample improved somewhat, but the highs are still muted (reran the same tests). Clearer now, but still not the fabulous sound I've read about in so many other reviews. They can be brought into line with a large amount of high Hz equalizer. Sorry guys - customer service, JLab gets 5,000 stars for caring so much. Design and look, they get a solid 5 stars. Comfort, 5 stars. It's just that all those things go away when they are in my ears and I'm listening, they are 3 star headphones. It's possible I have the 1 in 1,000,000 lower quality sample. They still can't be beat as upgrades from the standard earbuds that come with most players. Back to the original review: The good. These headphones are comfortable to wear. The ear bud material is soft and fits mosts ears well (there's three different sizes, typical of all in ear headphones). They stay in your ear well. Not recommended for the active person, but they won't fall out while you walk. The headphones are low profile, so if you are laying on a pillow they don't fall out or poke harder into your ear. The construction looks decent, they have a nice solid feel to them. The wires are fairly thin, but they look like they will survive. The jack is a straight one. It appears to be a little extra long, so it might fit an original iPhone. Isolation - it works well. Anyone moving up from Apple earbuds will be stunned at how quiet these phones isolate the world. You'll be a bit surprised at hearing yourself swallow and breathe. It's the same for all passive isolating in ear headphones. These are no exception, and are not really any better than others at isolation. The bad. Audio quality. Highs are muted pretty badly. Bass is decent, you should never expect an in ear headphone to rattle or vibrate. These headphones dig fairly deep into the bass. Midrange is decent, voices sound fairly good. Where these really fall flat, the high range. They have virtually no treble to speak of. My testing. I tried these headphones connected to a Nokia N95-3 cell phone, an iPod (5th gen), a portable DVD player, and Logitech Z-10 computer speakers. I listened to a variety of programs, video games, comedy video, movies, and music. In all cases the highs were definately missing. My reference headphones are Shure E3c's, yes they cost 4 times the price of these (list price), but they are a reference point. I also compared to Apple's earbuds. Movie viewing: Hancock - John Lee Hooker's opening song and the solo cello music later in the movie all were muted, but had good low tones. Dialog was clear. The explosions were clear. Imaging (the sense of where a sound is coming from) is really poor, most of the sound appered to be coming from the middle of my head. Not a bad headphone for movies. Music: Garbage - Shirley Manson's voice was not clear and crisp. The band actually sounded separated from her singing (something not heard with the Shures). High guitar notes were muddled. Beth Orton, Central Reservation, I heard similar problems. Cell Phone: my Nokia has a bit of a hiss whenever music or videos play. It's almost annoying with my Shure headphones. The JBuds did a good job masking that hiss. So as a cell phone headphone for listening only, these aren't bad. I like the look, feel, and construction of the JBuds. Wish I could say that the sound quality was equally great. I won't retire my Shure headphones. Excellent dynamic range in a small package I bought some earphones not too long ago from Radio Shack. They were the kind you press into the ear. They were awful. The sound was bad and they wouldn't stay in the ear at all. The jbud j2 are also a kind that you press into the ear (stay in pretty well you you give them a small twist when inserting instead of just pushing them in.) It made me a little nervous, but the price wasn't bad and the reviews were all good, so, I decided to go ahead with the purchase. Amazon got them to me in less than a week and packaged them well. The sound quality is very good. Some of my classic piano concertos just come to life with these. The dynamic range may be a little too good. I like to listen to music before I go to bed and I would use the Samsung earphones that came with my player, and by the way they are very good for being the included earphones. Since it's right before bedtime, I'll turn my player's volume down to 2 or 3 (out of 30). The J2s when turned down that low on volume, the higher frequencies I can't hear like I could with the "cheap" earphones. Perhaps it's my hearing. This really isn't a complaint because when I turn the volume up to say 10, It (J2s) sounds fantastic. The construction seems pretty good, but only time will tell for sure. The noise canceling part of the earphones also works very well, if that's what you like. The Samsung earphones you could hear other people talking just fine and still listen to the music. J2's you cannot. That can be good or bad depending on the situation. I may get another set for my son. They are good, Bryce

Good Earbuds I purchased these and some Skullcandy earbuds at the same time. I like these a whole lot more. Very comfortable and good sound. silicone earbuds quality of sound-excellent, but the cord is too fragile. The insulation separated from the cord in one spot the first week. Great earphones for the money I'm not a fan of buying earphones for [...]. Even spending [...] for these made me uneasy - until I actually tried them. These earphones are really nice! Comparing to Coby's CVE51 earphones, these seem to be 'louder'. The other ones were more quieter in volume for some reason. These earphones are great, but I'm still uneasy about the [...] because I break my earphones easily.

But honestly, to get the good quality music, customers should look for more a expensive range of headphones. These are not soft, and they are NOT comfortable. I got these at my local Walgreens yesterday. They're much cheaper on Amazon, but still not worth it. They look like they should be soft and comfortable, and the name Jelleez certainly implies they would be, but thye are large and hard and did not stay in my ears. I didn't even try listening to music through them because they were so UNCOMFORTABLE. Useless I had a similarly bad experience. In an emergency situation of not having my usual pair of earphones to listen to the radio at work, I picked these up at my local Duane Reade. I am very disappointed. They are not comfortable and they do not stay in my ear for more than a few seconds. I am angry at myself that I picked the "pretty blue" earbuds, rather than the bulkier, but probably better standard ear phones. Not worth it!

Tiny package really delivers My recent personal audio trend has been downsizing. I bought a Nomad MuVo MP3 player from Creative Labs, and I wanted a earbud set that would parallel the size and tiny form of the player. I bought several, and these Sony MDR-EX70LP buds really stand out from the crowd.The rubber buds provide a fair barricade from unwanted noise from the Outside World (TM) while enjoying music. I've experienced no problem listening to music at a comfortable volume level, even while riding the subway, though it's not such perfect isolation that someone would need to shout to get my attention. Nor would that someone need to disrupt me; the same design prevents my music from leaking out and being a public disturbance, even in a quiet enviroment.Nice as that consideration is, it's secondary. Tertiary, even, because two very important factors make this earbud set even more of a winner: the second being that the sound quality is excellent. Not perfect. I've heard better bass reproduced from full over-the-ear headphones, but considering the size, it's still surprisingly good. Mid- and upper-range sounds are faithfully cast, and raising the volume becomes prohibitively painful before I've heard any distortion yet.The best aspect of the setup, though, is in the sheer comfort. Once I found the pair of buds best sized for my ear's form, I was glad for every penny I'd invested. On a long bus ride, I can turn to my side and not dislodge the buds or jab myself painfully awake. Sounds good I've gone through probably 20 ear buds throughout the years, various brands and different models and currently use these and am quite pleased. I like to listen to a variety of music that requires a good frequency response and these do a good job without spending too much. The sound is more than adequate with a range suitable for most music with a bass that isn't over the top. You get just enough bump and thump. The fit is the best of any I've used. A snug fit that closes the external sounds pretty much and cancels out unwanted interference to your music with the exception of wind when you are moving fast. When you are still they are perfect.I get plenty of use on the road with at times jarring movement and find that they do not fall out like many other models. The Sony EX70LP was launched as part of Sony's 20th celebration of the Walkman. It is unique in Sony's portable headphone range in that this is one of those "in your ear canal" type of earphone. Comes with rubber tips and a special storage case for the earphones only (and not the cords).First impressions: this is one of the most comfortable ear-canal cans I've ever had. Once inserted properly, the rubber tips (come in 3 sizes) accomodate the remaining slacks (if any), providing very good isolation from external noises. Though not as good as the Etymotic ER4 series ... in this regard, it provides excellent value isolation-wise. It's also useful because others around you would not be disturbed from unduly sound leakages. I often use it when I sleep also because the earphone is "unnoticeable" after a short period of use.Sound: I'm not very good in describing the sounds in the most minute detail, but I will try to provide an overall picture. I tested it without an amp, since a majority of portable listeners do not carry portable amps with them. Before breaking in, I noticed the almost unbearable boomy lower bass and unnecessary brightness in the high-range mid-frequencies. The bass seemed to dominate the overall sound which is an undesirable quality for some listeners e.g. classical. After about 40 hours of breaking-in, the bass mellowed slightly, while the mid-range frequencies are slightly enhanced. Bass is still boomy though, so equaliser will play a part in improving its sound qualities, especially if listening via the PC. The weird thing about the EX70 is that I actually enjoy playing computer games with it. Maintenance/durability: Good for value. The rubber tips can be removed to be cleaned. The cords can "fold" quite easily if bent, so when storing, twirl the cords around 3 fingers and that should do it. :)Other comments: I must say first of all that this is probably the most moddable earphone in the market ... There are many ways to make it sound even better, which is of course a good thing. Nevertheless, I do urge that potential buyers try out the Aiwa HP-VX100 (another ear-canal can), Sennheiser MX400 and MX500 (normal earphone). They're way cheaper, and quite alot of people in head-fi think that they're way better than the Sony EX70 for value (in the sound department), especially the Aiwa. The Sony EX70 is not for everybody that's for sure (especially people who hates boomy bass), so I recommend trying first (it's widely available). ...

Best bang for the buck My wife owns the gunmetal black high end v-moda earbuds and to tell the truth, those have NOTHING on these as far as sound (except for looking cooler and costing twice as much). Yes, they may be a little more durable (and heavy) due to material (metal vs plastic), but as far as sound goes, you will NOT be disappointed with these. Now having said that, you must experiment with the various ear inserts so that you get the one that fits "just right". But when you find that, you will be amazed at the sound of these. They are also extremely comfortable. Lovin' them so far! I bought a Sansa E-250 (reviewed elsewhere) which I really like. I thought the sound was good but I didn't care much for the earbuds. They were quite uncomfortable after wearing them awhile. I began shopping around for replacements, but shopping online is difficult because you can't test the sound or the comfort. So, I relied on the good reviewers here at Amazon. My search led me to these V-MODA Bass Freq earbuds. I chose the black. The only negative to these earbuds is the difficulty in getting them out of the packaging. Once that was done, I plugged them into the E-250 and gave them a try. You really need to experiment with all the earpieces. I started with the small but they were too loose to give good sound and they fell out. Like Goldilocks, I kept trying the different sizes, until I found the best fit. Once you find the best fit, you will also experience the best sound. I was extremely pleased with the sound of these earbuds. They are far better than the ones that came with the Sansa and WAY more comfortable. I have not touched the equalizer yet, because I'm pleased with the sound, but I'll probably experiment with it to see if I can improve the sound even more. These earbuds are a great bang for the buck. They sound great and are comfortable in the ears. It's a totally new listening experience. Definitely best for the price. I've gone through tons of earbuds of different brands at different price ranges. I really like V-Moda: 1. The medium size silcone buds fit in my ear perfectly. They are soft and confortable (better than Sony's). So, they can stay in my ears for a long time. 2. The price, I think, is really good. It seems like most of the decent (but not ridiculously overpriced)earbuds are now priced around 100 USD--like Bose Triport in-ear, SONY MDR-EX90LP,V-Moda Vibe 3. Bass Freqs are also surprisingly really loud (not just because the fit into my ears and block the ambient sound out). Even at high volumes, I am surprised that bass, mids and highs of (128 kbps MP3 files) remain undistorted. My complaint is that the bass is not well balanced for all kinds of music. I feel the bass is too loud and somewhat overpowers the mids. The highs aren't as crisp as I would have liked. That said, considering for the price that I paid for these, I am not sure if there are anything out there in the same price range that are significantly better than the Bass Freqs. I'd like to try the VModa Vibes but they cost twice as much. I'm very happy with the Bass Freqs.

good ear buds for work I always get this model for work, they are cheap which is good because I wear them out and lose them. I find them to be very comfortable-I wear them all day 5 days a week. You can't go wrong for the price. Totally Amazing! Best buds in the world. My daughter heard them and now has them, her boy friend has them, and most of her friends! I don't, she got mine too!. They are mostly either seniors in high school or freshmen in college, so they are demanding listeners. Sennheiser earbuds I read a review of high fidelity earphones in PC World and this product compared favorably with products that cost many fold more. I had a pair of Bose earbuds that cost about $100 that perished after an encounter with a vacuum cleaner... This product was quite similar in quality and I am not sure I could tell the difference, at least not without them being side by side. A very good value.

Overall value and performance were my decision factors and I am not disappointed in the least.I'll defend some of the reviews on this site with this review.On the unit that I have, the cords are the same length. Symmetry is nice and I don't have any issues with the appearance of the ear phones.The cord is fairly short and I use it at work so I can block out any annoying and distracting conversations as I try and work (isolation feature.. which in this case, just that it fills your ear cavity) is wonderful... although, hearing my own humming sometimes may not be for my office mates.I've only had the earphones for a week, so I can't defend any tales of the connections breaking loose. I can only say that the ear phones look to be quality made and solidly constructed. I am not usually too rough on items, so I feel that the other users who had complaints of crackling sounds and loose connections, may have been a little rougher on these things than what normal people would do. I don't plan on jerking the cords out of my ears or out of the terminal connection, so I think I will be fine.I'll certainly update this review if the earphones turn out to be different. too much noise from the cords I do not like the cord material. It rubs against my clothing and carries the sound up through the cords to the earbuds. Also, note, one side is longer than the other. You can wear it either under your chin (but it looks a bit odd, kind of like a square under your chin) or wrapped around the back of your head (which my 17 year old informs me is why one side is shorter than the other). Good iPhone headset In preparation for the new iPhone coming out in July, I needed to get a new set of headphones that included an inline mic/answer-end/pause button. After a week or so of research, I decided to try this pair, even though there is very little info or reviews regarding actual sound quality. I switched from Sony EX-51/EX-71 headphones to the mm 50. The MM 50 iP headphones sound similar to the EX headphones I've used, with balanced sound throughout, but even better and clearer. I switched the included ear cuffs from the MM 50s for the ones I used on my Sonys, as the MM 50 set is a bit tacky and had little bits of crap stuck to them just by taking them out of the box. Ick. The MM 50 wires are very thin, and the whole set is extremely lightweight. They are even more comfortable than the Sonys. Also, the longer I wear and use them, the more I like them. The cord is shorter than usual, which I like because I tend to catch the wires on stuff if there is too much extra. I put the Nano/iPhone in my right back pocket, and run the headphones up to my left ear, and the length is perfect. From where the phones split (note these are "J-shaped" headphones, where the cord for the right ear goes behind your neck) to the jack that plugs into the iPhone, the cord is just over 36" long. Currently I'm using them with a Nano, but will be switching to the new iPhone when it is released. The answer/end/ff button works fine with my current 2G iPhone, but there is a noticeable hiss at low volumes sometimes. Also, I can not get the volume from the iPhone to go low enough (I listen at the office and need to be able to hear through them) but I think this is on the iPhone side, as the Sonys don't get as quiet as they do on the Nano either. Overall, I like the headphones, and like them more after a day of use. As long as they don't break after regular use, or have some weird problem with the new iPhone, I'll continue to use these as a replacement for my old Sony EX-51 and EX-71 sets. Edit July 13: I got a new iPhone 3G this week, which has a redesigned headphone port. These headphones still work correctly with the new iPhone, the plug fits fine and the answer/end button works. Plus, the annoying hiss is gone! Edit one year after purchase: These are still my daily (and only) headphones for my iPhone 3G. The play/pause/ff button still works perfectly, sound from the mic and headphones is still good, and I haven't seen any signs of wear around any connections. Sennheiser with another phenomenal product Like everyone else...I'm always on the lookout for the perfect pair of earbuds for my listening habits. I'm mostly a hip hop fan, so obviously this review will tend to lean in that direction. For years, I always thought iPods just were crap when it came to sound quality. My problem was that I didn't find the earbuds that suited my listening style. It really wasn't the iPods fault...it was my fault. I didn't test out different brands of earbuds. I came across a pair of Sennheiser CX300s that were highly recommended by a buddy of mine. I was in love. No matter what MP3 player I hooked them up to, I enjoyed every minute of my listening experience. Fast forward two years to this weekend. I was listening to my trusty CX300s when a call came in my iPhone. I couldn't answer it. I had to pull out my plugs, pull my iPhone out of my pocket and answer it. That's just not going to work going forward. So I set out to find out if Sennheiser made a pair of CX300s with a mic and a play/pause/answer/end button on it. Turns out they do. They come in the form of the MM50 iP (be SURE it comes with iP at the end of the model number as the MM50 regulars have the 2.5mm plug for regular cell phones). These are basically exactly the same as my CX300s when it comes to the listening experience, which in my book, is excellent. Build Quality: It seems to me, most of the complaints from the aftermarket headphones is that they break to easily, or one ear stops working, etc. Like I said, I've had my CX300s for about 2 years and they have been flawless to this day. Hell, I still will go on using them at the gym with my tiny Creative player I carry there. The cords are relatively thin so the cord noise is minimal although not completely eliminated. They come with three sizes of ear buds but no carrying case whatsover, which is kind of disappointing seeing as how the competitors mostly do. Sound: This is where I love the Sennheiser MM50 iPs. They are one of the only earbuds I found where I'm completely satisfied with the low end. They are very loud and very clear when it comes to the bass. They definitely won't blow you away with the midrange and highs, but they are pretty clear and distinctive. From an overall sound standpoint, I don't feel these can be beat...especially under 100 bucks. Some headphones will have better highs and mids, but they will fade out when it comes to bass (hello Etynomic, Shure & Ultimate Ears)...and others will be very good from a bass perspective, but fall flat on the high/mid end (hello Bose and Vmoda). These are a perfect balance in my eyes. Fit: This is an interesting one. They come with three sets of sleeves (small, medium and large). My CX300s fit perfectly with the middle sized sleeves. These new ones fit perfectly with the small sleeves. Weird. Not a big deal at all, but it's weird since the sleeves are all the same size...I just got a better seal with the small ones on the new MM50 iPs. If they are anything like the CX300s, I'll be able to wear them for hours at a time without fatigue. They are just a heckova set of earbuds when it comes to comfort. Conclusion: Anyway...all in all, I'm extremely happy with these buds. Sennheiser hasn't let me down yet when it comes to SQ on the iPod/iPhone line of Mp3 players. I want to reiterate, since I'm sure someone will do it...MAKE SURE YOU GET THE IP VERSION OF THE MM50s...they are the ones with the 3.5mm jack (as well as the slim plug for the first generation iPhone's recessed jack). No regrets Having spent $400 on the original iphone, I wanted headphones to match the aesthetic and functionality of the device. I am a big fan of the earbuds so initially I went with the V-Moda headphones. I had to replace the first set fairly quickly, and the second set lasted me about 6 months before they started cutting in and out on one side. The V-Moda sounded good, but they really weren't built to be durable. When I got the new iphone 3G, I debated sending that second set of V-Moda headphones in. That seemed like too much trouble though, so I decided to just try something new. I had heard of the Sennheiser brand and the reviews on here were positive, so I gave it a shot. And I was impressed with what I got. The headphones sound great and seem quite durable. I've had them now for two months and haven't had any issues with them. They're designed so that the cord goes around the back of your head, which is actually nice because it makes it easy to take them off without dropping them; they just sort of hang on your shoulders. I walk around NYC a lot, and I can hear my music fine whether on the street or in the subway. They also do good job on planes. They don't completely cancel out background noise though, so you can still have a sense of stuff going on around you. I've also had no problems talking on them through the built-in mic. Overall, I feel like good iphone headphones could cost a little less than they do, but I feel completely satisfied with what I got for the price I paid. These aren't top of the line headphones, but they're a huge step up from what Apple gives you and worth the price.

I am extremely happy with these earphones For the past two years I have been using Shure E2C earphones and have been very happy with them. But they broke three times on me (Shure did a great job of replacing them each time) and with the warranty ending I decided that I would retire these as my main earphones and use them as back ups for whatever earphones that I upgraded to. After looking and reading reviews I decided to get the Klipsch Custom 2 isolating earphones. I am in love. I must, however, confess that I did not fall in love instantly. It took a while. When I bought the Shure E2Cs, all I had to do was pick out the right size of sleeve, pop them into my ears, and love the sound. The Klipsch earphones, on the other hand, are far more sensitive to placement within the ear and far more difficult to fine tune. The Shures are very tolerant to the angle you place them in the ear; the Klipsch have to be "just so" or they will not work well. It was also pretty difficult to find precisely which sleeves I should use. After three days of experimentation I landed on the large sleeves and it has been nothing but joy since then. The sound of these earphones is infinitely better than that of the Shures, but the improvement is not as large as the jump from the earphones that came with my iPod (which are, I'm sure we can all agree, are pretty much crap) to the Shures. Going from Sony's earphones to the Shures was a titanic leap in quality. The jump to the Klipsch did not represent anywhere near as extreme an improvement. That being said, there is a definite and sharp improvement. I tested a number of songs ripped at 320 bps (using EAC rather than iTunes) and in every case the Klipsch earphones brought startling new levels of detail out in the music. For instance, if I played a song at a rather high volume over the Shures there was a fair amount of distortion. The same song played over the Klipsch resulted in nothing but clarity. On many rock songs, for instance, there is a presence to the bass drum that is entirely lacking on the Shures. I couldn't be happier with the sound. And because there is so little distortion I find listening to my iPod even less tiring than I did before. There are a couple of design details that I really love. For instance, the wires are wrapped in cloth mesh rather than rubber or plastic. Living in Chicago, this is a very big deal. I mentioned that I had to have my Shures replaced three times. In each case it was because of a short in one of the wires. I believe that each time the short was caused because of inflexibility in the wires when the covering material became very brittle during extreme cold. But with the Klipsch's cloth mesh covering, this simply will not happen. I don't know if I will have to have these replaced at some point (and let's face it, one of the real problems of earphones is that they are fairly delicate), but there is no question that these are much more sturdily constructed. The comparisons I have been making between the Shure E2Cs and the Klipsch Custom 2s isn't entirely fair. After all, I paid just under $100 for the Shures two years ago (the price has since dropped further) while I paid $199 for the Klipsch. A truly fair comparison would have been with the comparable Shure product, which I have no doubt is very fine. But I don't have the kind of cash that would allow me to be fair. I can say that for the money both earphones are outstanding. I was a bit hesitant to double the amount of money that I was going to spend on earphones, but am very happy that I did. I can enthusiastically recommend these earphones, though I urge patience in experimenting to see which pair of sleeves is best suited to the user's own particular ears. A discontinued set of balanced armature earphones. You may like the Klipsch Image S4 better I've had these Klipsch Custom 2 In-Ear-Monitor (IEM) earphones for about a month now. There are a number of things you should know before you buy a pair: 1.The Sound. They used two Balanced Armature drivers to deliver a flat, balanced sound that really emphasizes the mid-range. Unamplified vocal music comes across warm and present. Treble is a less prominent than the mid-range. Bass is always in the background. Take note: The earphones can reproduce bass, however, it's muted--and after a few minutes of listening you don't notice it very much. It feels like it's missing something and this is due to the design. Balanced Armature drivers don't move the air as much as a moving coil "dynamic" driver, which many other earphones use. That's important because with these earphones we don't "feel" the bass punch the way you might be looking for. It's always in the background and not prominent with the Klipsch custom 2. This will be disappointing if you like music that emphasizes the bass. On the other hand, if you like a full-range earphone and find other earphones to be "too bassy", then these would be good for you. So, these earphones are good if you like acoustic vocal music where bass is not a primary component. If you do like bass, you'll find that these earphones are missing something which other earphones provide a bit more (no in-ear-phone will have a fantastic subwoofer-range bass response, especially for ipods, as earphones with an impedance of 16 ohms or over have reduced low-range on ipods). Klipsch itself seemed to have recognized this as they have gone with a moving coil "dynamic" driver design in their Klipsch Image S4, which won an award from CNET recently. *Update* I recently listened to the Klipsch Image S4. After a "burn-in" period necessary for dynamic driver-based earphones, it sounds great, with a more bass-prominent sound. The custom 2's are just slightly richer in the mid-range, but honestly, the Custom 2's are better than most earphones in that range. There are music tracks where you can hear elements of bass on the Klipsch Image S4 that you don't notice on the Klipsch Custom 2. The Image S4's are really great earphones and I wish I had bought them instead of the Custom 2's. 2. Comfort Klipsch noticed that the human ear canal isn't round, it's oval-shaped. So, they've given us oval-shaped ear-gels. Well, an oval is different sideways versus upright, right? This accounts for all the discussion on comfort in other reviews. It takes a little time to orient the eargels in the right way. Once you get the hang of that, these are very comfortable earphones. A good fit is important for the sound quality (crybabies who gave these earphones 1-star clearly didn't take the relatively short time to properly fit the 'phones). They have an over-the-ear loop. That may not be for everyone, but they're neat because you can pull the earphone out of your ear and let them dangle from the loop when you need to talk to someone or pay attention to your surroundings (IEMs block outside noise when they are in your ear). Not a feature for everyone, but it can be very nice. 3. Value They used to be $199, now they are $60. There's a reason for the price drop, but if you like jazz or folk or acoustic or classical music, then these are a real steal (5 stars earphones for you). If you like punchy bass that really makes itself present and alive in your music, then you can avoid this discountinued set of earphones and maybe go for the Klipsch Image S4. People coming from an old pair of dynamic driver-based earphones (sony, monster, etc.) should go with the Klipsch Image S4 for sure. If you're coming from balance armature earphones like Etymolic, you'll find the Klipsch custom 2 to be more balanced than, say, the Etymolic Er6i. Klipsch Custom-2 Rock! Klipsch. The company probably best known for very large floor standing speakers, including the legendary Klipschorn, now makes in-ear 'phones. I ordered the Custom-2 Klipsch Custom-2 In-Ear Noise Isolating Earphone as soon as they were available directly from Klipsch. I was fortunate enough to try out prototypes of the IMAGE and Custom models this past summer. For absolute comfort, the IMAGE is unbelievable. The Custom series while not quite as easy to forget they're in your ears as the IMAGE are also amazingly comfortable. I have sensitive ears when it comes to sticking things in them and while I normally do not forget that the Custom-2 are in my ears, they are amazingly comfortable. I've used for several hours most days at work and my ears are very happy. How do the Custom-2 sound? Full, rich. Shimmering highs and thunderous lows. I've used Grado SR60's the past few years, which I still love, and the Klipsch Custom-2 sound more live. The music sounds more real. And there's more bass. The noise isolation allows one to better tune out nearby coworkers not to mention hear greater detail at lower volume levels. Think you don't like in-ear 'phones? Try the Klpsch. I couldn't stand sticking 'phones in my ears but these are very comfortable and an amazing product. The legendary sound of Klipsch that fits in the palm of one's hand or in one's ears. As Professor Thump likes to say: "Stick it in your ear!"

Beware... I bought these because I have owned Aiwa earbud-style headphones in the past, and been extremely happy with them, even so far as to prefer them to any other brand, including Sony.This pair turned out to be an almost complete disappointment. To be sure, the sound quality is fantastic; the treble is nice and high, the bass is spectacular for 'phones so small...Unfortunately, the sound quality is not so good as to make up for the major problem with the 'phones: a glaring design flaw. The headphones do not come with earpads, nor do they have a soft rubber coating to keep them planted in your ears. They're made entirely of HARD PLASTIC. Not only do they not stay put, but, kept in your ears long enough, it's enough to cause severe pain. It's nigh on impossible to find just replacement earpads, without having to buy a new set of headphones. If you already have a set of earbuds with earpads you can re-use, these may not be such a bad replacement. But if you want something comfortable and ready-to-use right out of the box, look elsewhere.Two stars, and only that because of the good sound quality. Comfortable The sound through the earbuds are not as loud as I would like, but they are MUCH more comfortable than the ones that originally came with the iPod. They also screen out external noise pretty well, so be careful if you are using them in situations where you might need to pay attention to your surroundings! Bought these Sony ear buds and was surprised and how well they fit and the sound quality is very good, nice tones. Excellent for the price. Delightful Sound, Noisy Cable Took a gamble on these new buds and was blown away by the lovely sound. Fairly bass-heavy, but extremely faithful to ethereal highs and softer sounds that were never picked up by previous buds. Would have preferred a rounder sound, but for the price, not bad. BEWARE, however, that the cables are extremely sensitive, and every little body motion and contact produces Annoying Cable Noise. I'll be curious to see what others report about the K 340s. Excellent Back-Up Pair I have used AKG over ear products for many years, and have always thought them to be awesome, professional grade equipment. I spend far more time listening to music on the go these days, so I wanted a second pair of IEM's to knock around with at a reasonable price. My primary monitors are Westone UM2's which I love almost as much as air and water. I am currently saving up for the UM3X model from Westone. I wanted a pair in the 100-150 dollar range for work and working out and generally beating up on. I save the Westones for peacful moments like outdoor walks and poolside lounging. Almost all of my music playback is done on a Blackberry with the Slacker radio app. I am a huge fan of Slacker radio and have introduced many friends and relatives to the service and they all love it. I have read that some people find the sound quality of Slacker to be marginal, but to my ears it sounds fantastic on the Blackberry with The Westones and certainly these AKG K-340's. These IEM's lean towards a full, warm, thumping sound not unlike other AKG's that I've owned over the years. I also like the volume control on the cord - very helpful at work. I highly recommend them to anyone but a critical audiophile who might find them overly bass heavy. Also, while they are fairly light and comfortable, they cannot compare with comfort of the UM'2 which just about dissappear into your ear. I imagine it would be difficult to find better sound in this price range. Great product, but no customer service.AKG is too big to care. I've bought AKG products since the 80's and love them all, but if you have a problem, don't ask them for help, they don't care. These little headphones are great with full sound in the high and very deep base. You can use them on any device that has a headphone jack and again, they sound fantastic, the best I've heard music through so far for a small set. The silicone sleeves that come with the headphones are the only ones you can use to get the full sound. When they tear, that's it, the aftermarket type don't work well at all. The sound loss is noticeable right away. No low end and no high end, just the mid-range and it's not pleasant at all. I've contacted just about everyone at AKG except for the President of the company for replacement sleeve tips and they all hand me to someone else who hands me to someone else and round and round it goes. Basically I was told to just buy another pair to get the sleeve tips. At $119.00 each pair and only after having them a month or two, that's a bit extreme. What it comes down to is that if you buy from them, it's now your problem and good luck cause they really just don't care. It's a real shame, because they do make great products. I guess they have such a customer base that to lose maybe hundreds, doesn't even phase them. There's plenty more people out there to sell to, even if it's only once.

Throw your Apple ear buds in a box. You'll want to use these instead! My review seems to be the polar opposite of Arun's. Hmmm. Let me start this review by stating that I am a headphone and ear bud junkie. I currently own at least five pairs. So when I had the opportunity to review the Griffin EarThumps, I leapt at the chance. For those who do not know the difference, `headphones' refer to over-the-ear units with a connecting bonnet of some kind. They fall to two sub-categories open and closed air. Then there are `ear buds', or `earbuds' if you prefer. These are the hearing-aid style headphones that get inserted into the ear or, in some cases, ear canal. For the audiophile on the go, buds are the ticket. They're small, consume little power and can deliver astounding audio quality. Many have the added benefit of blocking out external noise allowing for music to be enjoyed at a lower volume. Headphone and ear bud design is an exercise in compromise. In the lower price range, even more so. When shopping for ear buds, expect to find prices ranging from below -$10.00 to over $200.00. As you climb the scale, audio quality and comfort go up, distortion goes down, and the range of sound from low bass to high treble gets wider. In cheaper units, you will usually find units with good base at the expense of high-end frequency response; the exact opposite (good high/poor base); or a mid frequency compromise that doesn't do justice to either. So. Enter the Griffin EarThumps at a retail price of $19.99. I did not expect too much and was extremely surprised by what I've found. First the basics. What is in the box? A pair of ear buds offered in either white or black. Matching the current iPod, and iPod nano models. A very high quality zippered fabric case (more on that later), and interchangeable soft-rubber tips in three sizes - you know, the part that actually gets inserted into your ear. The EarThumps connect via the ubiquitous 3.5mm stereo plug and will work with any audio playing gear using a standard headphone jack. Next up is the build quality. Wow. The fit and finish and attention to detail is amazing at this price point. Griffin provides a product that looks like it should have a three digit dollar figure. The supplied case seems to be some kind of Cordura. Unzip and it opens like a book. Each half equipped with a little elastic mesh pocket. The left side also sports it's own zippered sub-pocket to store the extra ear-tips. To use the case, place an ear bud in each mesh pocket. Allow the cord to dangle free. Zip the case shut three-quarters shut, twirl the headphone cord around two fingers and stuff the resulting spool into the case. Zip shut. I also own a set of Griffin EarJams, which are an add-on accessory to the stock Apple ear buds. The EarJams come with the exact same case. So I've had time to develop my technique. When setting up the EarThumps for use, try them with the `middle size' tips, If too tight or loose, pull off the tip and snap on a different size. By the way, there is no rule that says they must be symmetrical. You can have a medium tip on the left and a large on the right. Ideally, the buds should fit well enough not to fall out, and you should forget that they are in. Some of the high-end bud manufacturers advise wetting the ear buds before inserting. They also recommend tugging your ear up and back as you insert the bud. When you let-go of your ear, the fit on the bud gets tighter. With the EarThumps, mercifully, no wetting is needed. And usually no tugging either, unless you just can't get the bud to stay in your ear regardless of the size tip used. WARNING: TURN YOUR IPOD VOLUME DOWN BEFORE HITTING PLAY. If your volume is high, these ear buds will feel like you're resting your head on a state monitor at a concert. On to audio quality. The EarThumps have superb high-end frequency response. Very low distortion and so-so base response (definitely good enough to get by). They are so crisp that I find myself re-discovering my old music collection - hearing nuances that I never knew were there. Compare these to the standard issue Apple ear buds and you will find cleaner high-end sound and comparable, maybe slightly lower base. Comfort. I have not shelled out the big money for some truly elitist ear buds, so cannot speak to their comfort. But within my budget, I have never found ear buds that are 100% totally comfortable. The EarThumps come close. Also, living in Alaska usually means having to wear a hat from time-to-time. The Griffin EarThumps are the first ear buds, or headphones of any type, that I have been able to wear with a winter hat pulled over my ears. Every other model of buds seem to get knocked out of the ear after a few minutes under a hat. The EarThumps have a very low profile and the hat just doesn't have much contact with them. In conclusion, Griffin could have prices the EarThumps at twice the price and I strongly believe that the consumer would be getting their money's worth at that! At under twenty dollars U.S., they are quite a gem of a bargain. If I were Sony or even Etymotic, I would be worried about now. I've been using the EarThumps for the past 10 days now. They have climbed the ranks to become my favorite all-around ear bud. I love my EarThumps!!! I love my EarThump Earphones!!! They fit my ears (the smallest of the three sizes), and their sound is great too. Before I found them, I was about to despair at the original ones my iPod came with -- painful, and they kept falling out. I started wondering what the fuss was all about and was almost ready to chuck the whole thing. I tried two other models of earbuds in that price range (one set even came with thingies that wrapped around the ears) but they were hardly better -- and still fell off. I even tried full-size headphones, but that seemed kind of silly. Enter EarThumps: Saw them at the airport, bought them, and never looked back. It's been six months, and I still love them, and they still work great. If they should break one of these days, I will definitely get another set! Excellent Pair to Have Around Griffin Ear Thumps, for the price, are an excellent choice for all around listening versatility. As to fit, they don't make par for my jogging(running) yet much depends on your ear canal size. As to clarity - they rival and/or exceed Apple OEMs. They really shine in the comfort department, espcecially great for plugging into a laptop and watching movies because you forget they're on and that's the way it should be. A nice broad reasonable range of lows and highs. The cord, contrary to other reviewers' opinions, is not too thin but is in fact very substantial. I have earbuds with cords half as thin which makes for a mess and as such I rarely use them, but the thumper cords are great. The Thumps are great little buds for a very cool price and should be a staple in every collection.

I still have a pair of an earlier model Sony buds Sony MDREX36V/BLK EX Earbud Headphone (Black) that are working just fine because I do not abuse the wire. The best earbuds EVER!! These are the best earbuds I've ever had. They sound awesome. I got these as a replacement for my Apple earbuds that I had for only 1 month before they fell apart. The bass actually sounds to me like my the subwoofer in friends car. Sometimes the treble is really high and sounds horrible but just move the earbud in your ear a little and its back to normal. Pleasantly surprised. Works with iPod Touch 3rd gen Despite other reviews of incorrect fit or earbuds slipping out I have not had any problems with them. The fit is really good and comfortable. Once in, the earbuds sound really good. The sound tends to be towards the "bass-y" side. Listeners who enjoy hip hop, dance, or any type of electronic music will really appreciate bass reproduction on the lower end (without using EQ). Don't let this prevent you from trying them out if you are into other types of music. They sound great when listening to Jazz, Classical, and Pop music also. Some headphones have poor bass reproduction so this is a real plus. I also have a pair of Sennheiser CX-300 but they don't fit as well so bass reproduction is troublesome. Aside, from the sound, the iPod volume/mic works great. It works very well with iPod Touch 3rd gen (firmware 3.1.2). I am able to place VOIP phone calls and use Apple's Voice Control without any problems. If you are looking for mid-priced earbuds with iPod voice control then these will do the job. If you want to exercise with these then look elsewhere since earbuds and sweaty ear canals will never work together. They will always slip out of your ears. These come with a headphone bag that you can use to clean your mp3 player, large and small replacement ear buds, and a cord adjuster to make your cable length just right. Bad Product I bought two of them. One is myself, and one is for my friend as a gift. For the one, I used: After I tried the earphone, there is a loud noise, as "Zzzzz", when the volumne is slight high. If both side of the earphones are the same, I may think it is the natual of the design or construction. However, the problem of "Zzzz" only happen on left side. The right side works very well. Therefore, I doublt on the quality of the earphone. Also, I wrote an Email to the customer service of Harman Kardon. However, there is no reply. As the result, I am very disappointed by the earphone and the brand, Harman Kardon. What a joke I also bought these headphones for use in medical transcription as the previous noise suppression headphones I owned were Sennheiser, very good but creating a ridge in my hairdo. So I thought small ones would be nice and also portable when I work inhouse and not at home. Imagine my surprise when I plugged them and everything, music and voice, sound so tinny. There is an option switch between treble and bass boost, but it did nothing to change the sound. Expensive and horrible. Wish I had seen these other reviews before I wasted my money. Wow! These are bad. My goodness. These headphones are bad! Got them FREE with some other speakers. They weren't worth the bother of shipping. They belong in the garbage. No bass at all. I'm not an expert at these type of headphones, but these deserve a zero. Horrible.

Musical Masters I don't like to review a product after only a few days owning it. However, after only about 40 hours burn in, I can't imagine how much better the sound could get. Unlike what I've read about the turbines, this set has a bass that opened up with burn in. As a music lover that has spent crazy amounts of money on audio equipment, I find it refeshing that the Monster Turbine Pro offers amazing value. The music is so cohesive, no midrange congestion at all. Clean, fast, deep bass. The bass never gets in the way of the music. The mids are awesome, not overly warm, no sibilance. Of course any recording that bad sibilance in it will show up, this little in ear won't add any. The highs, at least to my ear are perfect as well. Not overly bright, nor dull. All the instruments sound convincing. It's nice to hear all the instruments come across, without blurring together. I feel a few may want more extreme highs, at least from comparing to what I've read in reviews of other iem's I've read. That said, I think any more highs would sound artificial and splashy. The cymals sound very good. The basss guitar lines ar great, and don't get in the way of the rest of the music. Snare drums snap. Everything just seems to translate the music in a very convincing manner. Soundstage is good, not the best I've heard, but better than most. The most endearing part for me is how good the bass is, and yet not ever getting in the way of the music. I won't compare to other brands.......don't want to step on toes. My opinion is subjective, and I am not easily impressed once I get to this price point. If this is your price range, the set is worth a look. The price has gone up since my pre order. I'd still call them a bargain. My next purchase of iem's will be this exact same set. I have heard many, and many that cost more, but not better to my ears. The cord complaints on the old turbine are gone, minimal microphonics, strain relief, you name it. This cord is as good as I've seen. I could not be more impressed with the sound, at least for this price point. In my opinion you'd have to get a custom earmolds with even a much more expensive set to improve the sound. And watch out for those 1 star reviews from the many that hate the "monster" name. A lifetime warranty, outstanding performance for the price. And very comfortable fit, no fatigue after hours pf listening. From a music lover that is much more concerned with what he hears, than the name on the box. The sound quality is crisp and clear. You can hear every single sound and tone from all the musical instruments. It really is like having a speaker in your ear..! I am very happy with the product. Best in-ear monitor for the price. Initial impressions: Packaging/Presention - Nice, clean graphics in solid reusable box (storage). Accessories - Plenty of ear tips to find the right fit. - 2 pouches for storage are nice. I use one for the adapter plug and tips, the other for the earphones. - 1/8 to 1/4 adaptor plug Construction/Use - Buds are a bit heavy and want to pull out if you are being active but mine stay seated pretty well most of the time. UPDATE: After longer use, I noticed that these are definitely sensitive to falling out if not perfectly ear wax free. I have to constantly clean mine to keep the seal right and the grip secure. The weight seems to be a major factor in this. Maybe these should be made of a lighter material next round. - Cord is well built and has a very solid plug. Nice. (UPDATE: Metal housing on plug came loose, but it does not affect any electrical connections; it is aesthetic mostly. I glued it back, never to come off again, with some ZAP. I think it was loosened when I snagged the phones outta my ears again. I warn of this below.) - Unlike my previous ear buds, these do not have a cord that sits around the neck. I liked this because I could take the phones out and leave them hanging. Cord could be just a bit longer to prevent them from getting jerked out of ears, but not a big deal. - Finish is top notch! Sound - Beautiful clean deep bass! Not distorted deep bass that is common. Treble and mids are great but not over exagerated. Mids could be more pronounced and upfront , but I don't mind at all. I was happy to finally get some bass back into my music without ditching mids and highs to get it. I find the EQ settings on my iPod make a big difference with this set of earphones compared to my previous Sony MDR-EX90(13.5mm Driver). - Sounds great with my 5th gen iPod (Wolfson chip). - Isolation is good with the supplied ear tips. - Great addition to have for portable music audiophiles. Warranty is nice to have too.

Good audio, excellent noise isolation The IM-490 and IM-490S are essentially the same. Maximo and SanDisk claim the IM-490S is specially tuned for SanDisk products, but lacking a fuller explanation, I question that. In any event, I saw these on-sale and since I was looking for a pair of very portable, good sounding earphones, took the chance. These are very stylish, made of a lightweight metal alloy and - most importantly - sound great. They use silicone earbuds and provide three sets in the package: small, medium and large. The earphones are equipped with the medium earbuds and they fit well for me, providing an excellent seal against outside noise. As it happens, there's a construction project going on across the street from me and I was able to put the Maximo earphones to a real life test. The sounds of bulldozers and pneumatic tools were greatly reduced.. Audio quality is excellent. Use the built-in equalizer on your device and the sound output is even better. The bass, of course, does not match what you'll hear from larger headphones or speakers. That's the nature of the beast and if you are a bass freak, you will be disappointed. For me, the bass was fine without additional equalization on the two devices tested. The units come with the earphones of course, a 2 foot extension cable which is a nice touch, 2 additional sets of earbuds and a case. The case with the IM-490S is semi-rigid, while the IM-490 comes with a cloth bag. Maximo also provides a limited lifetime warranty, which from other reviews, it appears they honor without delay or hassle. All in all, a nice set of earphones with good audio quality and excellent noise isolation. One note: the description here says it is a 2.5mm jack. The Maximo websites says 3.5mm. Jerry Muddy, distorted sound I bought this product on [...] a little while back. On my iPod Touch, with the EQ turned off, the sound is muddy, indistinct, and distorted. The very low frequencies sound merely okay, and anything higher (voices, most instruments, percussion) sounds like it's being played through a thick pillow--muted and muffled. It makes me think of watching TV behind a pane of glass or something--you can hear what's going on, but everything sounds a little bit off. You can do better than this for much less money, honestly. Just going by sound quality, these sound like $[...] earbuds. Worst experience This item is hardly worthy for my trash. Why?--- The asymmetrical design is horrible. the design in general is bad but this item is to the extreme. The left ear bud cord is about 3" long, while the right is 13" long. If i turned my head the left bud came out. There was no way to wear it without the Left bud being 'heavy' and wanting to fall out with the right bud being 'light' tension and having 13" of cord flying around. Sounds quality is find i guess. But buds hardly wanted stay in my hear, even the right one that had no tension on the cord. There is no tension device, the one that rides up the cord to keep the individual ear bud cords close together until it splits for your ears. The section where the cord splits from one to two wires for the ears is bulky and makes it as if you have high voltage running through it. DO NOT get these earphones. Asymmetric design is awful. Well built and good sound, but a little rattle I'm quite pleased with these, except for one issue. I occasionally notice a slight buzzing or rattle. I haven't paid it too much attention, since I'm usually listening to talk programs. It's a shame, because they're otherwise quite good and a solid value. For my purposes, I have no regrets about buying these. Great product but not what is advertised I love these earbuds! They have wonderful sound quality. I am hearing things in my music I didn't know was there. I can't say enough good things about them, however I am disappointed with Amazon. The product is advertised as having an asymmetrical cable, I specifically ordered these because of that. Imagine my disappointment when the pair I received had a symmetrical cable. I would return them but the sound is so great I can't bear to part with them. So I decided I would order another pair but from one of the sellers offering free shipping and give these to my husband. However the second pair I ordered are also symmetrical. The seller's invoice states classic cord, not even matching the description on Amazon. I'll deal with cord, but I wish Amazon would give accurate product descriptions.

Super comfy for smaller ears. First of all, the color in the photo above is kind of off (or my monitor at work is terrible) - they look a bit more vibrant than you would think. Much less silvery. I suppose they're supposed to match the green 3rd generation iPod Nano, but I can't confirm this. These headphones were fairly impressive for the price I paid. They block out a lot of ambient noise (allowing you to turn down the volume and save precious battery power), the sound quality is good, and most importantly, they do not hurt my ears. Every other earbud in the world will either not stay in my ear, or will start hurting after about 10 minutes of listening. These ear cushion things are magical; they have just the amount of firmness to stay put without being uncomfortably rigid. When I bought this product a few months ago, it came with an extra set of cushions, but I have yet to lose the ones that were originally attached. They cling with such tenacity, even when at the bottom of my overcrowded bag. Another helpful thing to know: the plug is straight and not bent, so it will probably work with most finicky protective cases. They're noticeably lighter in weight than the earbuds that came with my iPod. I am notoriously tough on headphones (see: previously mentioned bag of doom), and these lasted me 3-4 months which, honestly, is way more than I ever expected from something that looked so flimsy and only cost $20. The left bud finally died on me yesterday during my ride home, completely out of the blue. Prior to this, there had been no change in sound quality or reliability. This morning's commute was miserable because I had to use the earbuds that came with my iPod. It made me very aware of how well these earphones block out train noise and muffle loud conversation, while allowing me to actually hear my music at a low volume. Long story short, I'm plunking down $20 for a new pair with no hesitations. The bottom line is, if you have small ears or discomfort problems with other earbuds, you'll likely be pleasantly surprised with this product. Good Headphones These headphones are good - better than the stock set that came with my iPod. I like the fact that they're green to match my iPod. It took a little getting used to having the "in-the-ear" kind, but they sound better. My only complaint is I can hear all my body movements while wearing them. It's like being under water. WOW, just WOW!!! Okay I consider myself a very knowledgeable and informed consumer. I have tried many a pair of earbuds in my day. I have owned Shure E2c, Sony EX-51 and 71's, and the V-Moda Vibes. I just bought the V-Moda's and love them. I almost bought the Skullcandy 11mm FMJ but online but insisted on the vibes. Well I was in a Mar$hall'$ yesterday and found the FMJ 11mm for 29 bones. I was shocked because I was ready to spend about 70 to get them online. So I picked up a pair expecting to return them 2 hours later. Let me tell you they give the vibes a run for their money. The bass is very clean and powerful more so than the vibes. The vibes still have better reproduction of mids and highs, but not by much. I was totally surprised how good the Skullcandy product was especially because all the audiophiles out there instist their products are garbage. They would be as shocked as I was if they only listened to FMJ 11mm. If I compared them to the Shure e2c, the FMJ's are far superior. I would say stay away from the Shure's. They are way overpriced and sound tinny and thin. The Sonys were ok (decent sound and pretty good bass), but cheaply made hence the 51's then the 71's. Regular headphones will always be better, but Kudos to Skullcandy for the excellent product. A+ THE FINEST EARBUDS OF ALL TIME!!! Please allow me to start off by saying that I can be very cheap (more on that later). Thank you. My first experience with the Skullcandy brand was when my 20 year-old son was listening to his iPod in the back seat of my car, and I thought he was ignoring us when Dad and I would ask him a question or otherwise try to engage him in our conversation. We kept having to wave our hands in his face to get his attention, and I was beginning to get worried that he had the volume up too high. He apologized and stated that he didn't mean to ignore us. Then he asked me to try on his Skullcandy and asked me what I thought of the sound quality. Needless to say, I was supremely impressed! My son said that he spent maybe ten dollars on his set when the music store where he bought it was doing their Christmas clearance. So I was getting ready to head on over to that store when I decided to first check out the Skullcandy web site to do some research on the product, and maybe read some reviews. Well, it was like walking into a cosmetics store for me to see the variety of styles and colors that they had displayed. The prices stunned me a bit at first; I had no idea that they were generally THAT expensive. And of course, these hot pink ones I fell in love with were not in stock. So I stewed over it a few days, tried on my son's earbuds again, and decided that I had to have it at $47.99 (the cheapest price at the time) at some random electronics web site I had never heard of. PROS: The fabulous color, of course! The sturdy metal casing. The three different sized pairs of interchangable gels to customize a proper fit. The unbelievably clean sound and noise-canceling it provides. Which brings me to my only... CON(S): Please remind your children to remain aware of their surroundings when using this product. You can block out the world and just revel in the full (I mean, PHENOMENAL AUDITORIUM QUALITY) music experience. But that means that they won't be able to hear anything; from a car driving too closely, to a group of rowdy people hovering nearby. There is, however, an amazing feature which I call an "Almost Mute" switch on the color-coordinated piece where the two individual cords meet from the actual ear buds. Once moved, you can still hear the music, but will allow the listener about 90% of being able to hear his surroundings again. Switch it back to "Almost Deaf" to ignore your annoying buddy. If you have children who are responsible and in a safe and friendly, well-lit environment, this CON need not apply. Best to be fully aware of their surroundings anyway. Hey, this is a Mom talking. One last PRO: Great for running. These babies won't fall out of your ears. In fact (and this was my deciding factor for writing this review), my husband gave up on his own iPod earbuds and the assortment of black and gray ones which belong our children---ten sets total in our house---and asked me to borrow my Skullcandy when he ran his PFA with his Navy unit last week. Yes, this hot pink, girly, totally effeminate one. Why? He didn't need to worry about anything falling off his ears while he was being timed on his run. This doesn't shift around at all with movement. This doesn't cause pain inside your ear. It's impossible to push too far in, and never pops out. All in all, this product is a great innovation. I've given up on the cheap brands and all of the after-market earbuds. And when I get a complimentary set with a new audio or video gadget, I just offer it to one of my children, or just throw it away. Skullcandy is a more-than-satisfying investment which will not ever let you down. BOOM What is in the box: 1 pair of 11mm Skullcandy Full Metal Jacket Earbuds 1 extension cord - about 3ft long 3 sets of rubber ear pieces - 1 small, 1 medium, 1 large 2 sets of foam ear pieces - all same size 1 drawstring carrying bag I own both the 9mm and the 11mm FMJ earbuds and the 11mm is quite an improvement. These are louder and the bass has more boom to them. You will not be disappointed with the bass on these things. The quality of material also seems to be better when compared to the 9mm. The cord is sturdier and chrome plated rather than just a rubber cord. The cord is about 3 feet long which should be long enough for most people. The extension cord adds about another 3 feet which extends long than my entire body. I have never used foam ear pieces before, so it took me some time to figure out a way to fit them in my ear properly. Before I was just shoving them into my ear like normal earbuds and it felt a bit uncomfortable. The real key is to squish the ear pieces to make them thinner, then put them into your ear and let them expand back after a few seconds. This allows a much better fit and an easier time inserting them into your ears. I have only one minor con. The 9mm featured a in-line volume control slider that is missing in the 11mm version. This is only a minor gripe as I don't consider volume control to be a major feature. You'll never have to worry if they break, because all Skullcandy products comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Overall, the 11mm FMJs exceeds the 9mm in almost every possible way. From sound quality, to accessories, to craftsmanship quality, it is all an improvement. Unless you find the 9mm for cheap, I highly recommend to go straight for the 11mm Full Metal Jackets.

Better than I thought!! I actually bought these at Target yesterday because my Skullcandy earphones went out a week ago. I ordered a new pair from Amazon but they were taking forever to get here so I picked these up. I have never owned a pair of Philips headphones before, but I decided to go for it since it was an "emergency" and they were inexpensive ($7.99). I didn't know what I was missing, the sound quality is so good and there is no feedback from the wire (something I had gotten used to with Skullcandy), and even when the volume is low the sound is clear. I wish I had switched sooner, I love these headphones. If you are looking for an inexpensive but quality set of earphones then pick these up, you will not be disappointed. Poor Sound but Cheap I got these as a cheap replacement for the earbuds that came with my iPod and am quite disappointed. The sound quality is horrible, it's very fuzzy, not crisp and clear as it was with the iPod headphones. The buds themselves are larger than on the iPod headphones. They have a rubber edge which makes them somewhat comfortable while wearing. Because they're so large, though, they often fall out because they don't fit right. The cord is noticeably shorter than on the iPod headphones, I measured and it was about 6 inches shorter which makes a difference if you want to keep your device in your bag while wearing the headphones. They're only $10 so it's not a huge loss but I wish I had spent a little more and gotten a better quality set of earbuds. Other earbuds in the $10-20 range (particularly those made by Sony) are of a much higher quality. Just because they say Philips doesn't mean that they're good! They look good but aren't so hot In a nutshell, I was disappointed with these earbuds. They sound cheaper than my other sets from other companies. They look cheaper, and the speakers are larger...hence harder to fit into the ear. Let me be more specific. The connector does not have the slotted extra rubberized meat that covers the end of the connector and the wire insulation that comes out of the connector. So any bending of this tip will result in a faster cracking of the wiring. In other words, these earbuds are poorly constructed. The little ear pieces are larger than any other earbuds that I own, and so they cannot fit into my ears as well as other brands. There are no soft rubber adaptors either, so what you see is all you can use. The sound also comes across as a lower quality than my other earbuds, with a dB of 102...and a frequency range of 12 to 22,000 Hz, it is just not as good as my iPod brand earbuds in any way. I recommend these as 'beater' buds to use when you risk exposure to harsh chemicals or something like that...say you are sitting in a hot tub and chlorine is evaporating around you...and you don't want to use nice ear buds...then these are the ones for that sort of situation. But no guarantees you will like the sound. I just don't like mine and wouldn't recommend them for normal use. I'd give about $5 for a pair of these if I was buying another set, otherwise I would not buy these.

I love these things!!! First, one thing about me. I am extremely picky about sound. If I'm going to listen to something, I like it loud and clear. I have a rather expensive sound system both in my home and in my vehicle. If I can't hear it the way I want to hear it, then I won't listen to it at all. So anyway, I noticed the original earbuds that came with my Ipod Video were starting to decrease in sound quality, which is very common. The right earbud adopted a vibration problem and they weren't as loud as I remember them being a few months ago. Of course, hearing that vibration was making me crazy so I took a trip to Best Buy to see what they had. These earbuds weren't the best they had, but they were definately the cutest and the Pink really tickled my fancy. Before purchasing I made sure they could be returned if the quality wasn't what I expected. To be honest, I expected to be back the next day returning them. Obviously that didn't happen. These things really blew me away and for $9.99 that surprised the heck outta me. Let me talk about what I like about them: First, the color is awesome. They match perfectly with the pink silicone I have on my Ipod and I imagine the other colors will match nicely too. Next is comfort, which I imagine is highly important to a lot of people. I'm rather new to the earbud scene and the reason is I have NEVER liked earbuds. Either they don't stay in my ears (since my ears are small and they never fit like they should) or they really hurt after extended periods of listening time. So all my life I have tried very hard to avoid having to use them. However, that was until I got me a pair of these. The soft rubber makes a HUGE difference compared to the hard plastic Apple earbuds. They don't hurt my ears at all and for the most part they stay right in my ears. I haven't quite grasped how exactly earbuds are supposed to go in your ears. After months of use I realized R and L must correspond correctly for them to stay in. They are shaped a certain way so you can't put R in your left ear or they will hurt and sound like crap. This is very evident with these earbuds, but not so much with the Apple earbuds. Now comes Sound. Nothing less then excellent. They even surpass the Apple earbuds when those were new. They handle bass extremely well and distortion is very minimal at high volumes. And boy, do these things get loud. I never quite understood why there was such a big issue with Ipod volume and hearing loss. My original earbuds never went *that* loud. Well, now I know what the big stink is about. But now I can at least drown out the loud music in the gym with my new earbuds ;) To be honest, I have never known JVC to be so capable of making good audio mediums. Sure, they make CD players and whatnot, but I have never found their quality to be on par with Sony, Aiwa, or even JBL. I have been a Sony girl my entire life so these earbuds come as a huge surprise to me. I seem to be digressing a lot in this review. Sorry 'bout that. Anyway, there are a few more things I would like to mention... On the outside of each earbud there is a small hole. When this hole is covered up, the sound changes dramatically from Stereo to what seems like Monologue. I found that to be interesting. And like most earbud sets, the cord gets tangled every so often and there is no small plastic slider like the Apple earbuds have. It's not an important issue to me but still worth mentioning. Overall, these earbuds are fantastic and I plan on purchasing all 5 colors as I have a funny feeling these might be discontinued. I can't see these breaking anytime soon since they are very, very well-made. Definately a good investment. And even if something does happen, I would be more than happy to purchase a set once every other month as long as the quality stays consistent. Great Gumy !!! My daughter is using these with her pink i-pod mini, and these do come in pink, they are alot more comfortable than the ones supplied by apple and the sound quality is somewhat better. Great value! After wasting my money on a pair of "I-pod look-alike" headphones that sounded like a tin can, I stopped caring about having headphones that matched my I-pod and bought a pair of pink JVC Gumys. I figured that for $10 it's not much of a loss if they aren't very good, and couldn't imagine them being worse than the ones I'd just bought (which cost more than this) but I ended up being VERY pleasantly surprised! Their soft exterior makes them more comfortable than my original (and replacement) I-pod headphones and there are no annoying foam covers to fall off and lose. But on to what really matters - the sound! They sound great! I really think they sound better than my original I-pod headphones. They have a very clear tone and are much louder than the other headphones I've tried (I don't turn them up very loud, maybe 1/4 of the way, and it's plenty loud enough.) I'm sure if you spent alot more you could find headphones with more bass or outside noise reduction, but for a normal I-pod user this are MORE than sufficient! And you can't beat the price!! I highly recommend these headphones.

I have a habit of falling asleep with my earphones on. These earbuds do not hurt from long use nor disturb my sleep when they are on. I love the soft cover that comes with it. Headphones - the silicone works well I purchased these to replace another set that I wore out (intermittent connection after being used and abused). The silicone seals well providing some attenuation of outside noise while increasing sound quality. They are quick to remove and reinsert and the soft silicone does not hurt the ear after prolonged use like some of the cheap foam covered earbuds. The connector is right angle which I like due to the way I use the player.

Well worth the money!! Bought these to replace my old earbuds (Sony MDR-EX51LP Fontopia In-The-Ear Headphones, White) were great, but they were getting a little old. These cost a little bit more but I thought I'd give them a try. Boy am I glad I did.. These have great bass response, very clean and clear mid-range and crisp, bright highs. The over-the-ear style works great, though it does take a little while to get used to putting them on. But once these are on, they're great. The Sony's didn't fit my ears very good (none of the cups fit perfectly) but these are great. Overall this is an excellent product, especially for the price. I'd definitely recommend this to a friend. Surprisingly Good I'm no audiophile but I am extremely pleased with this product. Comparing it to the Bose buds - the bass is on par and the clarity might even be better. I use it on the plane and it sounds great, even without noise cancelling. Recommend for the average person who wants a good set of ear buds but doesn't demand the "excellence" of a $100 set. Wow I just received these in the mail and plugged them into my iPhone to test them out. I initially bought them because consumer reports rated them #1 (tied with 2 others) and the description of the sound quality was more in line with what I was looking for (punchy bass with really clean treble). They are not a disappointment at all! I got them for $49 off Amazon, and think they are well worth the price. Short of professional (covers the whole ear) head phones, I haven't heard any better. Definitely haven't heard any ear buds this good. Also, the cord seems to be just long enough to reach my arm band and would probably comfortably reach a waist clip - not too long or too short. Last thing - I've had some headphones that have had different length chords for the left and right ear. I hated them. This is perfect, exact same length for both sides. The last test will be at the gym tonight to see if they slip out when they get sweaty...they feel very secure and not uncomfortable so far. Way to go JVC. (And Amazon for 1/2 off retail pricing!)
